The Dominican Academy Summer Connection: Inspiration
July 8-12th and July 15-19th, 2013
We invite middle school girls to join us for a week of discovery, inspiration, and connection at Dominican Academy, a Catholic college preparatory school for girls, located in the heart of Manhattan.
Dominican Academy's Summer Connection is a program designed specifically for rising eighth graders. As girls prepare for the transition to high school, they begin to explore the things that interest them and that will come to shape their studies and future careers. Our program aims not only to give girls a taste of the high school experience at one of New York's finest schools for young women, but also to inspire them through a week of varied visits and classes.
The Dominican Academy Summer Connection is unique in that it unites in-school and extra-curricular activities. This five day program combines cultural visits with personalized in-class instruction, aimed to develop the skills necessary for success in high school.
Each day, girls will venture out into the City for guided tours of New York cultural landmarks. This summer's program will include guided visits to Central Park, the Museum of Mathematics, and the Pierpont Morgan Library, as well as a performance and workshop with Fordham University theatre students. After each visit, girls will engage in exercises inspired by what they have seen, whether it's writing a story or working in the laboratory. At the end of each day, they will come together in small groups to discuss and present their work.
Two identical sessions will take place from July 8 through 12th and July 15 through 19th, respectively. Students will meet at Dominican Academy at 9 am before venturing out into the City, and returning for classes before dismissal at 3 pm. All visits and classes will be supervised by instructors and by Dominican Academy student chaperones.
There are 30 seats available for each session. Seats are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. The price of the program is $400, which includes museum tariffs, transportation, snacks, and supplies. We ask that girls bring their own lunch.
